This beautiful house was build in 2007 and is located at the Lauwersmeer National Park, bordering the world heritage site Waddenzee.
The biggest challenges for the architect where to build a house that fitted the landscape and to combine design with natural materials like bricks, wood and glass. As you can see the result is amazing. The interior is a mix of modern design with antique furniture; space and light are the two most important elements in this villa.
At the ground floor you can find a big kitchen and two bedrooms with each a private bathroom. At the first floor you can find the master bedroom with a stunning view over “Het Lauwersmeer”.
On this floor there is also the huge balcony with a lounge corner. There is also a second small kitchen perfect for preparing breakfast or a small bite.
The Lauwersmeer National Park is a beautiful nature reserve. When you stay in our house, it is almost impossible to imagine that until the 1970's the seawater still battered against the dikes.
You can enjoy the magnificent nature in the Lauwersmeer area. Walking along routes of the Dutch Forestry Commission, cycling over one of the many cycle paths through the area and sailing with the boat across the lake.
The various bird watching huts in the area are highly recommended, one of the huts you can easily walk to from the house. From such a bird watching hut you can watch birds from very close by, without disturbing them.
With an imposing Wadden Coast and an expansive clay and hilly landscape the Dokkum region has a great deal to offer the nature and landscape tourist. The Wadden region stretches from the north coast of the Netherlands to Denmark. With around 50 islands, a long coastal strip and a great diversity of animal species this region is regarded as one of the largest and most beautiful nature reserves of Europe. A part of this region can be found in the vicinity of Dokkum. The waddenzee is one of the most important bird and biodiversity Areas (IBAs) of Western Europe. The international Dark Sky Association named Lauwersmeer National Park an official Dark Sky Park in October 2016.
