Quail's End at Joshua Tree

Luxuriate in the hot tub surrounded by breathtaking scenery at this house dating from 1963. The interiors were decorated by Julia Chasman Design with a blend of mid-century modern and vintage style with original art complementing the unique decor. The decor includes many art works and objects of value. There is a Nespresso Pixie espresso machine, Electric coffeemaker, classic vintage stove including 2 ovens, 6 burners, and 2 broilers, and a microwave oven. There is a toaster, standing blender, Mini-chop and hand-blender The patio has a large Weber gas grill, and a Solo Stainless Steel Firepit, 2 lounges, and a full set of patio furniture -- couch, and two chairs, with table. The house was redesigned by architect Duane Smith of Hundred Mile House in Palm Springs, with interiors by Julia Chasman Design. A new large bathroom was added with a beautiful claw-foot tub underneath a skylight, as well as a large walk-in shower with a rain shower head, and a large double vanity. The original bathroom was redesigned with a mixture of vintage style, and modern conveniences, and finished off with radical cactus wallpaper. The kitchen continues the mix with a restored O'Keefe & Merritt double oven and modern stainless steel fridge and dishwasher. A Nespresso coffee maker makes restaurant-quality cappucinos and the kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. The mid-century orange fireplace is decorative only, as the current building codes will not allow it to be used --- so please do not attempt to use it!! A new outdoor fire pit is going in this weekend though -- right on the back patio next to the hot tub. The whole place is yours -- including boulders for climbing! I won't be available in person, but I am always available by text or phone to answer any and all of your questions about the house or the area. The house is very special to me -- and I want everyone who stays here to feel the same way. The house is in Joshua Tree, just 3 miles from the National Park. There’s a charming series of small towns close by, including JT, Yucca Valley, Pioneertown and 29 Palms, studded with vintage shops, ethnic restaurants, cafes and charming new stores. The house has a double covered carport and there is plenty of room for more cars in the capacious driveway. You will certainly need a car, but you are only 2 miles from town, and 3 miles from the north entrance to the Park. The house is full of artwork to nourish the soul -- with a big TV and Stereo system for entertainment, as well as a selection of books, and board games --- Scrabble, Backgammon, Anagrams, Boggle and Bananagrams in addition to regular playing cards for old-fashioned gin rummy or Hearts! Do you play the piano? I have a beautiful 1920 Hamilton piano which has been totally restored, and a selection of show tunes and classical sheet music. I'll be adding a guitar soon -- or bring your own! I must add a note about the Hot Tub. It is in fine working condition, and kept at a constant temperature of 104 degrees. It is maintained by a Pool maintenance company, and the water is tested at least once a week for chlorination and Ph factor -- which tests the oils or other outside factors in the spa. The Hot Tub is expensive to maintain, and its cleanliness depends in part on the consideration and cleanliness of guests when using it. The ideal would be that everyone takes a quick shower before entering the tub. Things like body lotion, sunscreen, etc tend to come off in the water, and make it less clean for the next user. I realize that it's a lot to ask to shower each time you want to go in -- but -- if you have just come back from a strenuous hike, for example, or if 5 or even 6 of you are going to pile in (that is the absolute max!) I would really appreciate it it you could rinse off before using it. I am happy to pay for the regular maintenance of the spa, but I have not added any special fees for users; just be aware that each time I have to drain and refill the spa it costs me $165. While I do this periodically, I don't want to have to do it more than is usual. If I find that it's necessary, and I have just recently refilled the spa -- I may ask you to bear the cost of that refill if I feel the rules haven't been respected. I hope this is not necessary, and I'm trying to avoid adding a special spa use fee, which some hosts do charge. So please just be aware! The other issue is that spa chemicals are strong, and while we test each week to make sure they are just right -- some people are extra-sensitive to chlorine or bromine, which is used to keep the spa clean. If you are one of these people, then I suggest you forego the Hot Tub and use the divine clawfoot bathtub instead! I can't be responsible for any skin reactions, or bathing suit color change -- though we do our best to avoid anything like that! Thank you for understanding!

Connect with Nature at Peaceful La Mirada House

** In compliance with the California restrictions on movement, we request that guests stay-at-home even as you are enjoying the peace of La Mirada. Multiple guests should come from the same house hold and masks are highly recommended when you venture out for essential services. Currently the home is offered with a 2-night minimum. Long term stays are welcomed for the rest of 2020, but they are not required. A 25% discount will be applied for stays over 30 days** Welcome to the La Mirada House! It is that comfortable refuge after a day of invigorating hiking and climbing in the National Park or the oasis that makes it hard for you to leave. The views from our home are magical; beautiful vistas in the daytime and plenty of stars at night. Sit on the back porch and watch the sunrise to your right while our desert cottontail rabbits provide entertainment. If lucky, a jackrabbit may join the party. The house is ideally situated between the village of Joshua Tree and the National Park on a paved road in a quiet neighborhood, very close to the many shops and restaurants of the village, just a 3-minute drive from the house. The advantage of being slightly removed from the village is the deep silence you experience. While the neighbors are there (somewhere out there!), they are far enough away to provide complete privacy. Cacti-filled lots surround the house on 3 sides. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which works well for a group of friends, couples, or families. The futon in the living room can also be set up as a double bed. Those in your party may vie to sleep on the futon as it has an excellent memory foam mattress. Ours beds are deluxe! There is a California king bed with a high-end pillow-top mattress in the western master bedroom, a queen bed with a high-end pillow-top mattress in the Queen’s room, and two twins with tempurpedic memory foam mattresses in the bedroom with a more modern feel. There is also a futon in the living room with a memory foam mattress. The master has its own bath and the other two bedrooms share the “hallway” bathroom. The house also features a comfy living room with ‘smart’ 55” TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player (including DVDs of some of our favorite movies), a strong, wireless internet connection, a filtered-water system and ice-maker (reverse osmosis), a gas grill, an outdoor smoker/cooker for adding new flavors to favorite recipes, and a full kitchen with all of the tools for any discerning chef (blender, electric juicer, scale, pots, pans, baking accessories, etc). Complimentary tea and coffee are always available, as well as breakfast bars and microwave popcorn. The dining area is designed to be as intimate as you like, or also great for a larger gathering. The tables and chairs are intended to be moved around so you can create your own seating arrangements. There is also an outdoor dining area with plenty of seating across the back patio of the house. And please take advantage of our fantastic hot tub, complete with lights and a waterfall feature, as well as our fire pit. Either way you will enjoy the star-filled sky. Creations by local artists introduce you to what you will experience as you explore the village. We do charge an additional $20 per person per night for groups over two. Eight is the maximum number our house can bear. We do allow most pets. Please share with us the details of your pet: type, weight, feel free to send a picture if you like! We do have this pet policy*** Please be aware that only toilet paper can be flushed down the toilets. All bedding and towels are included. The entire house is yours for the duration of your stay. While we will not be at the house during your stay, feel free to contact us with any questions! We are available via email, phone, or text. We have a lot of local recommendations to share. For check-in, we'll give you a code to the lockbox to get the key and you can arrive anytime after 3 pm and check yourself in. Please leave the second key in the lock box in case you accidentally lock yourself out. Put the keys back in the lock box before checking out at 11 am. Mostly, we will interact through phone and email. During your stay you will have complete privacy. Nearby Joshua Tree is a charming, eclectic, walkable town, with one-of-a-kind art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and even a saloon. Multiple outfitter stores offer climbing and hiking supplies, and there's a farmers' market every Saturday. You will need a car to access this area. There will be a 3-night minimum for Thanksgiving Weekend and; a 2-night minimum for Christmas Weekend; and a 2-night minimum for New Year's Weekend.
