Embark on an educational journey exploring the world of fungi on a guided mushroom walk at Catskill Fungi.
• We'll begin by welcoming you to our commercial kitchen with an introduction to Catskill Fungi's mission, sustainable practices, and mushroom-based products made on-site. During the kitchen tour you'll see how we make our mushroom extracts and you'll receive a custom magnifying glass designed to help you examine the intricate details of the fungi throughout the tour.
• Next, we'll head outside to the educational mural, which illustrates mushrooms that grow in the Catskill Mountains as we talk about how they grow and their environmental significance.
• As we walk over to our mushroom logs, you'll learn about different growing techniques, species you can grow at home, and the benefits of log-based cultivation.
• Next we will grab baskets take to the forest to look for mushrooms. We will talk about the significance of the mushrooms we find, how to identify them, and whether they are edible, poisonous, or medicinal.
Once back at the Catskill Fungi Kitchen you are welcome to purchase a variety of Catskill Fungi products, including mushroom extracts, books, painted conks, local ceramics, and other handcrafted items.
You'll leave with a hand lens for mushroom identification and a new appreciation for fungi that thrive in the Catskill Mountains.
